You can choose to make Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) in addition to your normal contributions to the Plan. These (tax deductible) payments are invested in funds you choose from a list pre-selected by the Trustee. When you retire, your AVC fund is used to provide additional benefits over and above your main Plan entitlement.
This provides security over the amount originally invested and stable returns. Money is invested with Building Societies, banks and other leading institutions. The aim is to produce a return in excess of the prevailing interest rate target for short term cash deposits.
Designed to protect the level of retirement income, particularly for those members nearing retirement age, by investing in fixed interest investments, e.g. Government Bonds.
