From 5 April 2002, the facility to pay additional voluntary contributions via SBS, in order to provide additional retirement benefits, was closed to new contributors. At the same time however, new Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) choices were introduced for contributing members of the Plan. To facilitate this opportunity, the trustee appointed two leading AVC Investment Management companies, Standard Life Assurance and BlackRock Pensions Limited (formerly Merrill Lynch Investment Managers), to manage the AVCs.

In September 2007, following consultation with Plan members, the Trustee announced its intention to transfer remaining members’ SBS balances to the BlackRock DC Cash Fund. Members also had the option to choose to transfer their SBS balances to other funds operated by Standard Life and BlackRock.

All balance transfers were completed by 16 November 2007.

Information regarding the listed AVC Funds can be found in the  AVC Investment Guide.
